What is Gaming for Democracy?

The Radical Play Lab @ USC is currently planning a series of non-partisan events during October 2024 that will teach, engage, learn from, and mobilize Los Angeles area underrepresented youth and young people who are voting age.

Together and with a broader local and national community we will: make games, make media, tell stories, and collectively gain a broader understanding of what civic engagement and democracy means in advance of the upcoming U.S. presidential and local elections.

Why Are We Organizing These Events?

  • Gamers are often targeted online to be demobilized or recruited by sexist, homophobic, and racist groups. Historically marginalized communities, young people, and potential first time voters are especially vulnerable to these tactics.

  • At USC’s Radical Play Lab, we believe in the power of community self-organization, and we believe that building strong community connections around games and play can re-mobilize and energize young people, particularly young voters ages 18-24.
